The Wekiva has played a major role in the lives of humans for over 12,000 years, since early Native Americans first lives along its source. Today it provides a natural oasis in amidst a burgeoning metropolitan area. Artist are increasingly drawn to its shores and through plein air paintouts over the last several years have created many fine works of art about it. Authors and film producers have created a growing library of books and films about the river.
