The Wekiva River at Buffalo Tram

Photograph by Brandt Magic

Early in this century, the huge cypress trees that used to line the Wekiva River were logged out. To get the trees out, narrow gauge railroad lines were laid into the forest. The site in this photo, downriver from the Wekiva Marina, is where a railroad tram used to cross the river. Remains of the pilings can still be seen in the water, and the tram itself is abandoned, rusting in the woods close to this spot.
