August 1, 2026 - FOWR Retreat
The FOWR board recently gathered for a Saturday retreat to map out our future, sharpen our strategic goals, and enjoy some great quality time together! We kicked things off with a fun icebreaker reflecting on what makes the Wekiva River basin so special, as well as the biggest environmental threats facing our watershed today. From there, we dove into focused breakout sessions centered on three core committees: Technical, Membership, and Communications. Each workgroup spent time mapping out clear objectives, setting priority actions, and brainstorming how to best rally our board, members, and community partners to get it all done. After reporting our key findings back to the full group, we wrapped up feeling aligned, focused, and completely energized for what's next for the Wekiva!
August 9, 2026 - FOWR Board Member, Family & Friends Paddle
The following Sunday morning, board members, family, and friends met up at Katie's Landing for a casual social paddle down the Wekiva River. Floating downstream and paddling back made for a perfect morning on the water, soaking up the sunshine and spotting local flora and fauna along the way. While a few retreat ideas naturally bubbled up, the trip was mostly about relaxing, enjoying each other's company, and celebrating the river we all love.
August 22, 2026 - Riverwalk and Clean Up Event at the Springs!
On Saturday, August 22nd, local residents from The Springs neighborhood, volunteers from the Clean Water Coalition, and guests hosted a wonderful springs riverwalk & clean up event. Volunteers of all ages teamed up both on the trails and right in the clear stream, wading toward Ginger Ale Spring to pick up litter along the way. It was a refreshing, hands-on way to connect with neighbors and care for our shared natural waters! Check out the video the Clean Water Coalition put together recapping the event here!
