Little Wekiva River Update

Improvements on the Little Wekiva River remain a long-term work in progress. At the recent Pavilion Celebration, Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine emphasized the County’s full commitment to remediate and restore the Little Wekiva River. As reported earlier, plans for a potential sediment basin are being explored by Seminole County and Saint Johns River Water Management District.

In the meantime, the community is also taking whatever steps it can to further the remediation. For example, on April 23, a team from IDEAS For US and SERV, with support from Chubb Law, held a shoreline restoration event along the most severely impacted section of the Little Wekiva River. This included planting native shoreline vegetation to improve water quality and removing invasive plants to protect biodiversity.

THANK YOU to ALL who are taking whatever steps we can to remediate and protect the Little Wekiva River and all of our Wekiva system rivers.
