A Note From The FOWR President

Hello Friends of the Wekiva River,

First, I want to thank Michelle Jamesson for pulling together these quarterly newsletters with information specifically about the Wekiva River basin, along with tidbits of information for all of you that are interested in natural resources of Central Florida. I want to recognize the many volunteer hours worked by FOWR board members and those with other environmental organizations that work to protect biological diversity in the region.

The board members Friends of the Wekiva River held a planning workshop last month to refocus our efforts on advocacy, outreach, and education. One of our priorities is to strengthen our connection to members, so those of you receiving this newsletter will soon get a request to renew your membership in the organization. We have recently been involved with litigation on two issues that will likely settle before going to trial and hopefully result in positive benefits for protecting water quality and natural lands in the Wekiva basin. We continue to work with local governments on policy issues affecting the basin and collaborate with agencies including the St. Johns River Water Management District on large scale basin planning efforts.
