Summer 2025 Update on the Little Wekiva River

The Little Wekiva River continues to have substantial sediment coming through the river channel that was originally upstream of Seminole County’s defined remediation project area. It is slowly progressing downstream and may pass through to deeper water. Seminole County continues to work with St. Johns River Water Management District to monitor and assess next steps for further remediation.

In the meantime, there is a continuing need for the removal of invasive plants and downed trees that impede the flow and impair navigability in several places. The rains are helping keep this section of the river otherwise navigable while next steps for remediation are addressed.
